How to Make Swimsuits, Lingerie, and Empire Dresses

This video is an introduction to the pattern design system I describe in my online patternmaking class for Swimsuits, Lingerie, & Empire Dresses. It is an approach that requires no previous pattern making experience. The class includes extensive sewing instructions so it is appropriate for beginning sewers as well

  1. I lost a great deal of weight due to an accident, and plan to alter my wardrobe to limit expenses. I've been sewing for decades, but have always found alterations too intimidating to attempt.

Sometimes, we never know when an act that seems simple to us has greatly helped a stranger. Your videos are informative and to the point. I can't thank you enough for sharing your expertise!

  2. Thank you!! I have been trying to find a video that shows you how to create your own patterns and not just ones that teach you how to create a pattern from existing clothes. Excited to put your teachings to use 🙂

  3. Ingenius! I am learning to make skating dresses and struggle with getting the lines right. I love this idea! In which video do you cover turning the strings into a pattern? Thank you so much for sharing this!!

  4. For those of you who understand what designing clothes is about, thank you for your comments. There are some people who have posted inappropriate comments about the work I do. I have removed them as they do not help at all in understanding the processes I have been teaching since the 1970s.

  5. If you're not mature enough to watch the video and get the information that's useful then don't watch the video. I feel in his body language and hand position that he not doing anything wrong and is being very professional. When sewing you need to take measurements for bathing suits lingerie etc very close to private areas. Get over it.

  6. I do not think he has done anything unappropriate to her. When you measure or fit clothes to a person, you have to come in contact with the person, in other words, to touch him or her. It is unavoidable, it is the only way to fit the clothes to a person. Just look at programs like Project Runway, and you can see the designers (male and female) fitting clothes to the models, and they basically do the same thing that this man is doing. Geezz, people, grow up!

  7. If you're complaining about him touching her:
    1) You do not want an education
    2) you do not want to know what he's talking about or where to look
    3) You are immature and perverting what you see
    4) Are ignorant that men straight or gay are doing this on models to design things.
    5) Are ignorant that you have to touch people at all to construct something for them.

  8. He is not don't get your knickers in a twist. She new what she was getting herself into. Do you even know what you are talking about?? When I do fittings i sit exactly the same way. it's comfortable and accurate. Nor does she look violated. she is most likely just bored. calm down
